INTRODUCING THE CHOSEN CASE STUDIES

by Helle Baekkelund, Aalborg University

Dear Colleagues,

Very shortly we will be ready to begin the interviews for the 5 chosen case studies. These cases cover a range of approaches to eCompetence practices and focus on both the overall national and organisational level and locally based e-Competence initiatives within departments and single course units. All cases thus demonstrate eCompetence practices and represent valuable insights into strategies for teaching, learning and training programmes carried out to support the development of eCompetence.

The case study interviews will take the form of in-depth telephone interviews conducted jointly by Aalborg and Dortmund. The interviews themselves will be based in an interview guideline, which is currently being modified to suit the focal points of the survey activity. This focal point is to create a working definition of eCompetence, where the capacity to successfully use e-Learning technologies in routine educational practices exists both on a personal and institutional level.

The first insights into the selected cases have revealed that there are many ways to reach the goal of eCompetence within universities, and owing to the new possibilities and needs for ICT skills, as well as new views of teaching and learning models there is also an indication that ‘routine’ educational practices are subject to different changes. We look very much forward to sharing the results of the case study interviews with you.

The 5 cases, which have been invited to take part in the case study interviews, are:
