EDITORIAL

Dear eCompetence and eLearning actors,

Welcome to the latest edition of our popular newsletter which is being avidly read by colleagues across Europe and further afield. Since our highly successful (and most enjoyable) Barcelona meeting, many of us have been very busy writing chapters for the forthcoming eCompetence Book, one of the intended major lasting outcomes of the project. This book will provide an excellent overview of the subject as well as painting a picture of the eCompetence landscape across Europe – essential reading for all those involved in academic staff development in this e-learning age. Of course, timescales for book production and publications are tight and all the authors are doing their utmost to keep on schedule.

We have also seen the launch of our videoconference seminar series, albeit off to a slightly wobbly start with a fire-alarm in Edinburgh delaying the broadcast of the first event! Some things are just beyond our control. However, we are grateful to Charles Duncan for agreeing to rebroadcast his session and it is now available for anyone to view in the eCompetence website. The next event promises to be very thought provoking and will be delivered by Johannes Wildt and Dirk Schneckenberg, in conversation with Iain Mac Labhrainn. This takes place on January 11th.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas, Mid-winter, New Year or whatever festival you celebrate at this time of year. I am sure that 2006 is going to be an excellent year for us all and given my Celtic background you can place confidence in my ability to make such predictions!
