As the end of the project marches steadily nearer, we are becoming more aware that a strict deadline for the publication of the eCompetence book will need to be adhered to in order to pave the way for the publishing process. Given the number of contributors and the tight timescale we are adhering to, it is extremely important that we have everybody’s cooperation in sticking to the timetable that we will put forth.
Publication of this book will give author’s a citation in a published volume, will enhance our chances of seeking subsequent and additional funding, and will contribute to the wider debate of competencies in higher education within Europe. If you are having difficulty writing the paper in academic English, please consider writing it in your first language and then asking a colleague or local expert to assist in translating it. We will do our utmost to assist in the editing process.
Please submit the completed papers by 31th December, 2005 to Christina McDonald Legg via email, christina.legg@nuigalway.ie. This version should be as near to completion as possible, containing full references, figures and tables, incorporating feedback, and completed according to the style guidelines that are posted on the website. Please be sure to use the template that is posted online www.ecompetence.info under the eCompetence book section.
We will be using a Creative Commons licence approach, which will maximise the dissemination of the book. This licence means that readers are entitled to make and distribute copies of articles without seeking copyright from the authors, as long as they acknowledge the author and editors in their distributions. For more detailed explanations of this licence, please go to http://creativecommons.org/. This model is becoming more popular in research, for example, this it is seen in two Irish publications, http://www.aishe.org/readings/2005-1/, entitled, ‘Emerging Issues in the Practice of University learning and Teaching,’ and secondly, http://www.nuigalway.ie/celt/pblbookThe Handbook of Enquiry and Problem Based Learning.’
Both of these were printed as books, but also posted online as pdf’s, in order to enable a wider distribution and dissemination of the book.
I look forward to reading your papers and wish you all a wonderful holiday season with you and yours.
Regards,
Christina McDonald Legg, MA
